The Mayflower Centre is a familiar landmark to many Canning Town people. It developed from the Malvern College Mission, a public school whose intention when setting up the mission was to promote sport, culture and Christian values. The Malvern College Mission developed into the Docklands Settlement run by Sir Reginald Kennedy Cox. He subsidised the settlement from his own income and also helped to raise money for the work of the settlement by holding charity events.
