There are ten Community Forums
covering the entire borough, and anyone who lives or works
in Newham is encouraged to get involved. The Forums have
been set up to enable local residents and stakeholders to
agree priorities for their local areas and provide feedback
on the performance of the local area strategies. They also
provide an opportunity for the whole community to have their
say, to get involved and to influence what happens in their
area.
Where do the Forums cover?
Newham’s Forums are based
on:
Beckton
Custom House and Canning
Town
East Ham
Forest Gate
Green Street
Manor Park
Plaistow
Stratford
West Ham
North Woolwich and Silvertown
How do the Forums work?
Each Forum has a steering
group to guide the direction of the Forum and encourage
members of the local community to get involved in events
and activities. As well as drawing-up a Local Area Plan,
they are also expected to:
Organise three newsletters
a year to let local people know what is happening in
their area
Hold two ‘listening
days’ to talk to local people about their hopes and
aspirations for the future of the area and discuss current
concerns
Organise a funday, carnival
or festival
Hold four public meetings
Hold an interactive
event to decide on local priorities.

include:
Newham 2010. The 2010
community event was conceived as a way for local people
to make their voices heard and for public policy planners
to directly hear them. And more than that: their views
would be recorded and used to inform the Community Plan
that the council produces to show the way ahead for Newham.
