| Canning Town in
Victorian Times. Canning Town changed
enormously in the time of Queen Victoria.
At the beginning of her reign, Canning Town as we know it
today did not even exist. It was just a marshy area of farmland to the east of the River
Lea.
During Queen Victorias reign, thousands of people
moved into the area to find jobs. This meant that hundreds of houses were needed for them.
Within a few years the area had become a busy, crowded industrial town.
